Graveside services for Mr. Walter D. (W.D.) Smith will be on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 4:00 PM at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Greg Warnock will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
W.D., 95, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at KDMC. He was born on June 8, 1924, in Brookhaven, MS, to H. Vernon Smith and Martha Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven; worked for many years at Mississippi Power & Light. W.D. enjoyed trips to the mountains, visiting with friends from the Greatest Generation at their local coffee spots, church outings at FBC where he served as a life member deacon. He also enjoyed mission trips, going to the sale-barn on Tuesdays, growing his gardens, and Sunday dinners with his children and their little ones. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-uncle, and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mrs. Dot Dickey Smith, and two brothers, Harley and Malcolm Smith.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Marge Case Smith; his son Mark C. Smith and daughter-in-law Debbie C. Smith; grandchildren Stefanie Orr and husband Jeremy, Katie Nations and husband Chris. Great-grandchildren, Sofie and Gatlin Orr and Dottie and Christopher Nations; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are grandsons Jeremy Orr and Chris Nations and nephews David Gill, Jeffrey Gill, Matthew Gill, Lanny Dickey, Danny Dickey, and Milton Dickey. Honorary pallbearers are his friends of The Greatest Generation, and the Cecil Rhodes' Sunday School Class and the Deacons of FBC.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Aspen, Kings Daughters Medical Center, and Hospice Ministries.
