Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Hamil Newell will be on Friday, October 13, 2017, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the Red Star Ward Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Bro. Landon Smith will be officiating the services. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12, 2017, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Friday, October 13, from 9:00 until 11:00 AM.

Mrs. Newell, 85, of Brookhaven, MS, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at St. Dominic's Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 10, 1932 in Carthage, MS, to Hal Ross Hamil and Annie May Freeny Hamil. She was a great cook and enjoyed doing for others. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She encouraged her family to pray and go to church because she was a dedicated follower of Christ Jesus. She also cared for others, making sure they had a way to and from church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Mayberry (Tump) Newell; her parents; her grandson, Nicholas Ross Newell; her sister, Donna Brantley; and her brother, James Hamil.

Survivors are her son, Prentiss Newell and wife Jeanene; daughter, Vickie Case; grandchildren, Corey Case and wife Tangela, Jessica Smith and husband Landon, Carl Case, and Chris Case; great grandchildren, Lainey Clare Smith, Jackson Landon Smith, Lyla Cate Smith, Lynlee Caris Smith, Alicia Nichols, Hannah Nichols, Lexi Nichols, and Dylan Case; great-great grandchild, Abby Forbes; and a host of family and friends.
