Funeral services for Mr. Versie Rushing will be on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Ramah Baptist Church in McCall Creek, MS at 1:00 PM with burial to follow in the Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 9:00AM to 12:00 PM at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive).

Mr. Rushing, 82, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 25, 1935 in Brookhaven, MS, to Luther and Lula Smith Rushing. He enjoyed cattle farming, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award in Lincoln County. He was a lifelong educator, starting in Roxie and continued into Lincoln County Schools, serving in multiple positions, including 12 years as Superintendent of Education. He was still employed by the Brookhaven School District as the 16th Section Land Manager. He was a Mason with the John A. Quitman Lodge #0244 for over 50 years and a Wahabi Shriner. He was a member of Gum Grove Baptist Church and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Mr. Versie was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lena Smith, Laurie Sisco, and Patsy Nations; and brother, Decatur Rushing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Carol Rushing; his daughter, Lisa Covington and husband Gary of Brookhaven, MS; his sons, Steve Rushing and wife Cassandra of Brookhaven, MS, and Johnny Rushing and wife Vickie of Brookhaven, MS; grandchildren, Will Rushing, Zane Rushing, Garrett Rushing and wife Alex, Jayden Rushing, Preslee Rushing, Anna Grace Covington, Allison Covington, Kensy Covington, Jessi Claire Covington; his brother, Donald Rushing; his sisters, Betty Jean Hughes, Frances Mullins, and Diane Little; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
