Steve M. Smith, 76, passed away on February 12, 2024, at Columbia Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Columbia, Mississippi.
Steve was born to James Kirby and Nellie Mae Smith on January 20, 1948.
He grew up in McComb, MS. He lived most of his adult life and raised his family in Baton Rouge, LA. After his retirement in 2013, he moved back to MS to live in Brookhaven. He was a pipefitter for 38 years and was employed by Turner Industries at the time of his retirement.
He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. His family was the most important thing to him and he loved them dearly. His family loved him so very much. He was a great man and will truly be missed by everyone that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his Father, James Kirby Smith; his mother, Nellie Mae Smith; 13 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanza K. Smith; his two children, Thomas A. "Tony" Smith and wife Charnel of Baton Rouge, LA; Stephanie N. "Sissy" Wood and husband Jerry of Lebanon, OH; five grandchildren, James S. Lancon, Justin M. Gill and wife Cathryn, Kaleigh J. Smith, Tyler W. Smith and Kyzar A. Smith; two precious great-grandchildren, Samuel J. Lancon and Collins N. Gill; four sisters-in law, Cecile Smith, Yvonne Davis, Maxine Russell, and Nancy Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Brookhaven Funeral home on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with service following immediately in the chapel.
He will be laid to rest at Magee's Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Thomas A. Smith, James S. Lancon, Justin M. Gill, Joseph "Squirrel" Kyzar, Alcus Kyzar and Joe Dykes. Honorary Pallbearer's are Jerry Wood, Tyler Smith, Kyzar Smith, and Samuel Lancon.
A special Thank You to the staff at Columbia Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Gentiva Hospice, Marion General Hospital and Brookhaven Funeral Home.
