Funeral services for Mr. Sam Cagle Smith will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS at 11 AM with burial to follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Garland Boyd will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 5 PM until 8 PM. There will also be a visitation on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM.
Mr. Smith, 85, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Diversicare Nursing Home in Brookhaven, MS with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 10, 1931 in Brookhaven, MS, to Bert Smith and Cordie Cagle Smith. He worked for 25 years with Chevron Oil as an oil field worker and spent 2 years in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Mr. Smith was an active church member and a retired deacon. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Maxine Smith; son, Paul Kindle Smith; brothers, Versie Smith, Marvin Smith, Odel Smith, and Morris Smith; sisters, Velma Smith, Mavis Callender, Jennie Smith Reeves, and Maybell Smith; and great grandchild, Camden Reed Shelton.
Survivors are his wife, Vertress Stewart Smith; son, Jeffrey C. Smith and wife Lupita of Spicewood, TX; step-son, Harrell Stewart and wife Linda of Clanton, AL; chosen daughter, Judy Ballard and husband David of Brookhaven, MS; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
