Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Smith Oliver Owens will be on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at New Prospect Baptist Church, Brookhaven, MS at 2:30 PM with burial to follow in the New Prospect Cemetery. Bro. Willie Welch will be officiating the services. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at New Prospect Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.

Mrs. Owens, 84, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Friday, October 26, 2018, at Diversicare of Brookhaven with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 17, 1934 in Brookhaven, MS, to Ernest Van Smith and Lillie Ford Smith. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She also loved her music and blessed much of Lincoln County with it. She was an active member of New Prospect Baptist Church and loved her church family very much.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 40 years, Thomas A. Oliver; her husband in her later years, Thad O. Owens, Sr.; her daughter, Ramona Oliver; her sisters, Edith Smith, Audrey Nessing, Lucy Smith, Eugenia Robbins, Willene Smith; her brother, Donald Smith; and her step-son, Charles Owens.

Survivors are her son, Jason Oliver and wife Sarah; her daughter, Carrene Scafidel and husband Blake; her grandchildren, Abby and Joshua Oliver,
Jason, Emily, Adrian, Micah, and Avery Scafidel; also the children and grandchildren of Thad Owens Sr.; and a host of other family and friends.
