Obituary

On March 10, 2021, Randall Gregory Smith Sr., passed away at his home in Sacramento, CA, at the age of 69.

Randall was born on April 19, 1951 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Jesse Columbus (JC) and Irene Smith. Randall received a degree in Civil Engineering in 1975 from Mississippi State University. From there Randall joined the CSX Corporation, where he had a long career before retiring after 31 years.

In December 1974 he married Patsy Callendar. Together they raised two sons Randall Jr and Jacob. They were married for 24 years before amicably divorcing in 1996. In 1997 Randall married Jan Smith, to whom he was married to for almost 22 years before her passing in August of 2019. Randall dedicated his life to his family and his career. He loved what he did, but he did it all to secure the future of his boys. If he wasn't at work he was either in his small garden, putting his boys, and all the kids that came to hang out at their house, to work, or he was tinkering with a computer. After he retired he loved to take road trips, stopping along the way to see the ones he loved. To know Randall was to know compassion and generosity.

Randall was preceded in death by his wife, Jan Smith and his Father, Jesse Columbus (JC) Smith. He is survived by his Mother, Irene Smith, his sons, Randall Smith Jr (Carri) and Jacob Smith (Jessica), his Grandchildren, Wesley (21), Micah (18), Riley (18), Alex (15), Lexi (12), and Matthew (12). He also leaves behind a sister, Velesta Young (Gwen) as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 13 2021, at 3pm, at Brookhaven Funeral Home. There will be a visitation period before the service for those who wish to attend. That will begin at 2pm. Flowers may be sent to 894 Natchez Drive, Brookhaven, MS. 39601 .
