Oscar Leroy Crane, Jr. began his journey on this earth on March 5, 1932 in Brookhaven, MS as the son of Oscar and Pearlie Delaughter Crane. With many stops along the way, that journey ended on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 92 years of age. Being raised during the depression in rural Mississippi, he learned early in life the value of hard work, honesty and dependability. Those traits served him well all his life. He graduated from Fair Oak Springs High School in 1950 and joined the U.S. Army in 1952, serving his country in Japan and Korea as a member of the 187th Regimental Combat Team (paratroopers) until his discharge in 1955. While working in Ozark, Arkansas he met Patricia Dane who became his wife on August 3, 1956. Over the course of the next seven years, four sons were born to Oscar and Pat; Al, Vincent, Kendall and Nelson. In 1958, he began a 50-year career in automobile sales and upon the family moving back to his hometown of Brookhaven, he opened his own independent used car dealership which became known as United Auto Sales. Upon retiring in 2008, he enjoyed gardening as well as taking up beekeeping for which he had a loyal base of customers for his honey. He was a man of quiet faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dixie Carolyn and two sons, Vincent Rene' Crane and Kendall Leroy Crane.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Dane Crane; sons Al Crane (Jennifer) and Nelson Crane (Denice). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Adrienne Crane Silvan (Salvador), Adele Crane Janczik (Barton), Sydney Crane, Sierra Crane Froerer (Ryan), Lee Bradford (Trish), Brandee Falvey, Adrianne Barrett (Sam), Levi Hansen (Mandy); 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Simply called Grandfather by each of them, they were a source of great joy in his life.

Additional survivors include two sisters, Iva Crane Rutland (Louie) and Evelyn Crane Hanks, as well as two nephews and one niece.

Special thanks from Nelson and Mrs. Pat to the Brookhaven Gentiva team, BeeHive staff and personal nursing assistants who helped us complete his journey.
