Funeral services for Joyce White Willekens will be on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, MS at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Hazlehurst, MS. Bro. John Matthews will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst, MS on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
Mrs. Willekens, 87, of Hazlehurst, MS, passed from this life on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at The Gardens in Ocean Springs, MS with her loving family by her side. She was born on September 13, 1930 in Beauregard, MS, to Otha Lupo and Julia McManus Lupo. She was a former bookkeeper at MS Power and Light Company and a former teller at Copiah County Bank. Mrs. Joyce was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, MS. She sang in the choir and was the director of Homebound Services for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands James Earl White and Pieter Karl Willekens; sisters, Velma Singleton, Frances Brown, Faye Slaughter, Dorothy Screws, Edna Earl Klothe and Wilna Perry; and brothers, Olive Lupo and O. D. Lupo.
Survivors are sons, James Hill, Marshall Hill and wife Susan, Jeff Hill and wife Matilde, and Keith Hill; daughter, Teresa Callahan and husband Mike; grandchildren, Jamie (Melissa) Hill, Brad (Cheryl) Hill, Tony Hill, Hannah (Joel) Shores, Jayson Ramirez, Amy Joyce Hill and Erin Callahan; great grandchildren, Austin Hill, Ashton Hill, Huntley Hill, Brody Keen and Kylie Keen; brother William (Audrey Jean) Lupo; sister Helen Lammons; sister-in-law Tommie Lupo; and a host of family and friends.
The family of Mrs. Willekens would like to give a special thank you for the loving care of the staff at The Gardens in Ocean Springs, MS and Southern Care Hospice.
