Services for Mr. Joseph Yves Savoie will take place at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Friday, January 12, 2024, with a visitation from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM; a celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00 PM. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Joseph Yves Savoie, 71, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on January 3, 2024, at his home. He was born on September 7, 1952, in Leonville, Louisiana, to Ovie and Evelyn Savoie.
Joseph was a hard-working Louisiana man who believed in the importance of family; he loved his whole entire family with all his heart. He began working with his brother-in-law at a young age as a deckhand on a barge, and at eighteen years old he received his Master License enabling him to work as a tugboat captain. Throughout his long career as a captain, "J.Y." excelled at his job; not only did he excel personally, but he also took time to mentor and train many young deckhands who would go on to become captains themselves.
Mr. Savoie was preceded in death by his parents and by eight of his siblings; he was also predeceased by his step-daughter, Ellen, and a granddaughter, Sierra Savoie, who passed away in 2023.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn B. Savoie; three sons, Brent Savoie, John Savoie, and Kelly Savoie; two step-children, Nancy B. Fether and Robby O'Neal; and his grandchildren. He also leaves behind three brothers, one sister, and a host of extended family and friends.
