Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. John Colon Peavy will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS, at 1:00 PM with burial to follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia, MS. Rev. Glenn Martin will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will also be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on the same day from 11:00 AM until time of the service at 1:00 PM.

Mr. Peavy, 92, passed from this life on October 8, 2020. He was born in Sontag, MS, on March 28, 1928 to Colon Crawford Peavy and Izetta Harrison Peavy. In 1946 he joined the the U. S. Air Force and served for 21 years. He married Rebecca Noe of Columbia, MS in 1952 and had one daughter, Evelyn Peavy.

In the US Air Force he served for 10 years as a jet fighter mechanic, then was promoted to officer and served another ten years as an aircraft maintenance officer responsible for one hundred F4 Phantom II Jet Fighters, with over 800 men under his command. During his Air Force career he was stationed in Eniwetok Atoll in the South Pacific, Greenville and Biloxi, Mississippi, San Antonio, Texas, South Carolina, Illinois, Florida, and England. His last post was in Tampa, Florida at MacDill AFB, where he retired as a Captain with 21 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rebecca Noe Peavy and his daughter Evelyn Peavy, of Brookhaven; his beloved sister Ruth Peavy Merritt of Columbia, MS and Destin, Florida; his younger sister Beth Peavy Barnes (Stan) and nephews, Rob Banes, Scott Banes, Matt Banes and Micah Banes of Texas; his nephew Colin Peavy; his sister, Marie Peavy Leibold (Bill) and nephews Erik and Kevin Leibold of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; his brother-in-law G. Harold Noe of Meridian, MS and nephew David Noe of Tampa, Florida. He had many cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister Donice Peavy Carter; his brother Leroy Peavy and nephew Michael Peavy; and brothers-in-law Sam Carter and Nelson Merritt.
