Obituary

Mr. Smith was born on September 8, 1922 in Lincoln County to Lillie Coker Smith and Robert K. Smith. He was a member and deacon of Heuck's Retreat Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the cemetery committee for numerous years. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the army.

Mr. Smith started dairy farming when he was 19 years old in 1943 and continued for 55 years until he retired in 1998. He was a member of the Lincoln county Co-op for over 20 years where he was recognized several times as Dairyman of the Year. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association, American Jersey Cattle Club, and former member of the board of Dairymen Incorporated. He had served from 1963 -1998 in various positions with the USDA County Committee.

Mr. Smith was instrumental in bringing electricity to the rural communities. He had served on the Magnolia Electric Board where he had been given Emeritus status. He served 3 years on South Mississippi Electric Board of Directors. He also had served as District Commissioner for the Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District and also served as Election Commissioner for District 2 of Lincoln County.

Mr. Smith was one of the charter members and founding fathers of the Lincoln Rural Water Association that was established in 1969. He worked hard by going door to door getting information in order to get water to the rural areas. He was the General Manager for one year and President and a board member from 1969 until he retired in October 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lillie Coker Smith and Robert K.Smith, wife Aileen Nations Smith, siblings Bertile Haley, Myrtle Free, Robert E. Smith, and E. Earl Smith,and grandson Jared Lance Smith.

Survivors Include: Wife Betty Britt Smith of Brookhaven, daughters Jane Smith Flowers and husband David of Wesson, Marsha Britt Warren and husband Mike of Wesson, grandchildren Jake Hamilton Smith, Trevor and Hannah Davis, Michael Warren and wife Mandy, Casey Warren and wife Mindy, Brandon Warren and wife Whitney, Justin Warren and wife Shannon, Peyton Flowers, Parker Flowers, and Maggie Flowers, six great grandchildren.

He also leaves behind special friends Don Sandifer, Tillmon Bishop and Ricky Levi.
