Obituary

Jesse Lamar Cartwright was born October 15, 1946 in Oil City, Mississippi and left his earthly home on March 28, 2024 at the age of 77.

Funeral services for Mr. Cartwright will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) on Monday, April 1, at 2:00 in the afternoon; a time of visitation will precede the services from 11:00 AM until time of funeral. Graveside services will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jesse was raised in Brookhaven, Mississippi where he graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1964. He then attended Mississippi State University before joining the United States Air Force in 1966 where he served in active duty until 1969. Jesse then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor's degree in Latin American Foreign Trade in Economics and a minor in Spanish. Jesse then began his 46 year career in the oilfield with Shell Oil Company in 1972 and worked his way to a drilling consultant before retiring.

He spent his years of retirement loving and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also spent time doing other things he loved, such as gardening in his flower beds and feeding his cats, and even the birds and squirrels, every day.

Jesse is survived by his wife and best friend of nearly 54 years, Peggy Cartwright; daughters, Kelly Cartwright, Angela Rippy and her husband John; his son, Kai Cartwright and his wife Alex; grandchildren, David Smith and wife Mandy, Ashley Dunaway and husband Brandon, Jessy Loren Moody and husband Bryce, Chance Lacking and fiancée Laura Dixon, Journey Smith and fiancé Coy Walley, Jayden Lacking, Tripp Cartwright, Ava Cartwright, Rheyan Cartwright, and Conner Cartwright; great-grandchildren, Raliegh and Hayleigh Meadows, Levi Smith, Daylan Fields, Addilyn Kate Walley, and Jesse Waylon Lacking. He is also survived by his brothers, Leroy Cartwright, Paul Cartwright and his wife Myrtle, Lonnie Heathcock; brother-in-law Danny Forrest and wife Shelia; sister-in-law Virginia Strahan and husband George, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Catherine (House) Cartwright; brother, Mike Cartwright and his wife Belinda; sister-in-law Clydia Cartwright and her daughter Kim Cartwright Lofton; nephew Ken Cartwright; great grandson Samuel Wooten; and brother-in-law Ronnie Forrest.

Jesse was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
