Funeral services for James W. "Jimmy" Smith will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Damascus Baptist Church in Franklin County, Mississippi at 2:00 PM, with visitation at the church on the same day from 1:30 PM until time of service. Bro. Willie Wright will officiate with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

James W. "Jimmy" Smith, 93, passed away on December 4, 2025; he was born on July 27, 1932, in Franklin County, MS, to J.B. and Myrble Lee Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Carolyn Fay Smith; and daughter-in-law, Janet Smith.

He is survived by his children, Faron Smith, Melba Barfoot (Dale), and Mickey Smith (Dana); one sister, Maxine McGehee (Bobby); and one sister-in-law, Linda Gail Band. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith retired from International Paper Mill (Natchez, MS) after 42 years; he was also an Army veteran. He served as a long time Deacon of Damascus Baptist Church of Franklin County, and also cared for and oversaw the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery, where he served as vice president. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in church and with other groups. The last group he played with was "The McCall Creek Band." He loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He had lots of friends and one being his dog, "Hank."

The family wishes to extend thanks to all those who nursed and attended to James at Silver Cross Health and Rehab. and Compassus of Brookhaven.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Samaritan's Purse.
