Funeral services for Mr. James Rushing will be on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS, at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Elder Mickey Myers will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
Mr. Rushing, 78, passed from this life on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, MS. He was born on August 29, 1938, in Tylertown, MS, to Herman J. and Lessie Smith Rushing. He was a member of Antioch Primitive Baptist Church; owned/operated Rushing Shoe Shop in Brookhaven for 40 years; and enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting grass, traveling, Sudoku puzzles, and spending time with his family. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Herman J. and Lessie Smith Rushing; wife, Sherry Rushing; daughter, Mary E. Rushing Calloway; brothers, Herman J. Rushing, Jr., Rufus R. Rushing, William "Bill" Rushing, Paul Rushing and Willie Elisha Rushing; and sister, Sarah Alice Rushing Sagor.
Survivors are his daughter, Lanelle Rushing Womack and husband Michael of Apopka, FL; son, James Edward Rushing and wife Melissa of Brookhaven, MS; brothers, Roy Smith Rushing and wife Rachel of Ferriday, LA, Donald Rushing of McComb, MS, and Jerry Eugene Rushing and wife Bobbi of Pineville, LA; sisters, Lessie Mae Rushing Rawls of Moss Point, MS, Maureen Rushing Spence and husband Harlan of Monticello, MS, Joyce Rushing Odom of Tylertown, MS, and Beth Rushing Morrow and husband Jim of Tylertown, MS; grandchildren, Monica Foster Meza, Kristen Daniels Arrington and husband Gerard, Ashley Rushing, James Edward "Jamie" Rushing, Jr. and wife Shelby, Molly Foster, Chase Daniels and wife Macy, and Anna Grace Rushing; great-grandchildren, Brianna Meza, Brooklyn Honea, Braeden Honea, Jason Edward "Jed" Rushing, Abigail Faith Arrington, and Noah James Rushing; and a host of family and friends.
Pall bearers are Jamie Rushing, Chase Daniels, Kody Byrd, Austen Rushing, Daniel Rushing and Jeff Butler.
