Visitation services for James E. "Puddin" Smith will be on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Brookhaven Funeral Home from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

"Puddin" Smith, 75, of Caseyville, MS, passed from this life on Thursday, June 27, 2024. He was born on March 24, 1949 in McComb, MS to James Hoyte Smith and Helen Myers Smith. He worked offshore for 31 years and retired there as a Driller. He also worked on land rigs as a consultant/company man for 16 additional years. Mr. Smith served his country as a combat medic in the U.S. Army. During his time there he was a recipient of a Purple Heart, Silver Star, awarded the Bronze Star Medal For Heroism and the Air Medal Award.

He enjoyed raising cows and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyte Smith and Charlie and Helen Boyd; daughter April Lynn Smith; and sisters Billie Jean Jackson and Inez Farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Shirley Brown Smith; daughter Cindy G. Smith and son Danny E. Smith; 2 grandsons Tanner James Smith and Kash Eli Smith and 1 granddaughter Laura Laken Smith; sisters Hilda Frazier (Mack) and Jerri Lynn Felder; brothers-in-law Terry W. Case and Buddy Hall; sister-in-law Joyce Brown; sister-in-law Frankie Leggett; brothers-in-law Johnny Leggett and Claude Callender; and a host of nieces and nephews.
