Obituary

Funeral services for James "Maxie" Phillips, Jr., will be on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the Montgomery Baptist Church Cemetery in Summit, MS. Bro. Mike McKee and Bro. Huey Moak will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) on Thursday, May 31, 2018, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday from 9:00 AM until the service time at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Phillips, 50, of Bogue Chitto, MS, passed from this life on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN, with his family. He was born on October 23, 1967, in Anderson, SC, to James Maxie Phillips, Sr. and Molly Johnson. He was a member of Montgomery Baptist Church; worked for many years as a project manager for Seismic Services, Inc.; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and spending time with his family. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, paw, and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Vickie Grice Phillips; grandfather, Marvin Phillips; and fathers-in-law, Floyd Grice and Frank Henry Owens.

Survivors are his wife of 5 years, Julie Owens Phillips; sons, Justin Curtis Phillips of Brookhaven, MS, and James Coltin Phillips and wife Hayley of Bogue Chitto, MS; daughters, Heather Crosby Givens and husband Christopher of Bogue Chitto, MS, and Hannah Crosby of Bogue Chitto, MS; grandmother, Lillie Phillips of Anderson, SC; mothers-in-law, Shirley Grice and Diane Owens; sister, Janie Phillips Hughes; grandchildren, Annaliese Phillips, Brantley Phillips and Carsyn Givens; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers are Brad Hurt, Tim Reynolds, Mark Moore, Charlie Fairchild, Brian Williams and Tim Howell. Honorary pallbearers are Greg McCaskell, Jerry Hart, Tommy Thomas and Gary Paul Allen.
