Obituary

Funeral services for James A. Keen, Jr. will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Brookhaven Funeral Home in Brookhaven, MS, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Gum Grove Cemetery. Rev. Ted Bowlin will officiate the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Mr. James A. Keen, Jr. of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on January 14, 2022. He was born on March 7, 1930, in Brookhaven, MS, to James A. Keen, Sr. and Ruby Johnston Keen and was a lifelong member of Gum Grove Baptist Church. After serving as a medic with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he returned to Brookhaven and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Smith, on August 21, 1952. In addition to working with his father as a carpenter, he enjoyed a career spanning over 41-years with International Paper Company.

James' interests included: carpentry, cattle farming, horses, and spending time with his many grandchildren. He recently received the title of Master Mason with the John A. Quitman Lodge 244 after 65 years of membership.

Proceeding him in death were his parents, James A. Keen Sr. and Ruby Johnston Keen; daughter, Janet Keen Smith; and sister, Betty Sue Keen Smith.

Survivors are his loving wife of 69 years, Betty Lou Smith Keen; daughter, Charlotte Keen Reinhart (Brad); sister, Aris Fay Keen D'Andrea (Nick); grandchildren, Kelly Smith Taylor (David), Ian Smith (Brandi), Kaitlyn Reinhart Beaty (Brad), Emily Reinhart Weber (Chad), and Anna Reinhart; great grandchildren, Cloie, Zach, Gray, Paisley, Owen, Nora, and Vance; son in law, Robert Wayne Smith (Nancy); nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers are Ian Smith, David Taylor, Brad Beaty, Chad Weber, Shan Smith, and Dane Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Zach Taylor and Gray Taylor.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dena McGaffeny and Jaci King of HaloCare, LLC as well as St. Luke Home Health and Hospice.
