Obituary

Gordon Lamar Sweeney was born on June 21, 1928 to Lee Phelps Sweeney and Nola Little Sweeney of Copiah County. On Sunday, October 3, 2021, at age 93, he went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Following his high school graduation, Gordon proudly served in the United States Navy. He and Norma (Adams) Sweeney were married in December 1946. Their fifty-plus-year marriage was blessed with three children, their spouses, and six grandchildren.

Early in their marriage, Gordon and Norma relocated from Crystal Springs to Brookhaven where he worked for Entex until his retirement. He and Norma were members of Brookhaven's First Baptist Church and supporters of their children's events and activities. Through the Brookhaven Exchange Club, Gordon served his community.

Throughout his lifetime, Gordon loved music and enjoyed accompanying himself and others on both guitar and piano. His love of music was instilled in his children and their friends as they observed and participated in his music. He and Norma loved to dance and shared the love of music.

Above all, he loved the Lord and his family. While he now absent from his body, he is present with the Lord. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
