Faye reached the respectable age of 90 before God called her home. She is the longest lived member of her family, of which she told us numerous times at her ninetieth birthday party, "I've never imagined that I could live this long!" That fact amazed all of us in her family just as much as it surprised her. Her closest contender was her father, at 85.
Faye is formerly of Brookhaven, the adopted home which she loved as dearly as she loved her family. Her church, her friends, the community all formed a most important part of her life, and there was never once a question in her mind where was home. Home is Brookhaven, and she never once lost the urge to return here. She loved Brookhaven, and everyone associated with it. Brookhaven held her heart.
Mom, as we called her, passed peacefully from this life on at 7:10 pm Friday, March 9, 2018 in Auburn, AL, where she moved after Dad's death to be close to her oldest son Larry and his wonderful family. She kept a subscription to the Daily Leader throughout her stay in Alabama, and was always pleased to read about her familiar friends, church, and neighbors. She never tired of reading about her community and felt connected to Brookhaven, right through her final days.
She was born on October 6, 1927 in Oklahoma to Clifford Allen and Mignon Shorter Allen. Clifford was a teacher and oil field worker, and was the most influential person in her life. She had one brother, Clifford, who served in the US Army Air Corps in England during that great war, and met our father, Ted as they attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where much to Clifford's chagrin they became engaged and married, all too soon according to Clifford's opinion. He could have been right, but young love would not be denied that soon after Japan, and marry they did, kids having kids soon thereafter, and we the survivors are rather pleased they did so.
There are three immediate children who survive her and love her very dearly,: Larry, Phil and Kent, and the world's most precious daughters in law: Judy is Larry's wonderful wife and beloved sister in law. Ashley and Phil divorced, but none of us have lost our love for Ashley, nor did mom. Ashley joined us for mom's ninetieth birthday in Alabama, which was a true blessing to mother, as all could see in that beautiful light that adorned our mother's eyes. The same is true for Joyce, Kent's first wife. Joyce felt that mom was an anchor in her life, and Mom returned that love in equal measure. Joyce came for the services, and the entire family loves her so for honoring our mother in this way. Kent's second wife is Ed and Jan Gove's daughter Dianne, another angel dearly beloved by the entire family, and treasured by Mom. Dianne too celebrated with us at Mom's ninetieth. Our mother was so happy that her sons found such wonderful wives, a fact that pleased her all through life. She loved her daughters as much and more than she loved her sons. Faye's ability to love knew no bounds, which is the true definition of success in her and our minds.
Faye is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Hollie, Christy Anne, Christy, Jackson, Lindsey, and Philip; and 6 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Mallory, Morgan, Adrian, Evan, and Weston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Joseph (Ted) Bein; her parents, Clifford Rupert Allen and Mignon Allen; and her brother, Clifford Allen.
Faye was a devoted mother and grandmother who prayed for her loved ones daily, and ended every phone call with "God bless you honey. I'm praying that God's perfect will is what is accomplished in your life." Her family was her life, and that family loved her dearly in return. She taught us to love each other, be kind as often as possible, be patient when patience is needed, help others, search for knowledge, and love God. Our mother had a most successful life.
She celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by her whole family on October 6, 2017, and had an especially wonderful time. She loved cooking and collecting cookbooks. She loved friends, her community, and was happy. She was a member of Brookhaven First Presbyterian Church-Faith Presbyterian Church, was a president of the Women of the Church, served on the Pastor Search Committee, and she served on the service board of Silver Cross Nursing Home. She was secretary in the early 1970's to Mr. Roach, Principle of BHS; to Dr. Jeter, head physician of University Hospital in Jackson; the secretary to the base commander at Barksdale AFB; and she worked with the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Houston, TX.
Faye loved Brookhaven, and took the greatest pleasure in knowing that she will reside in this wonderful community until the Lord comes to take her. She celebrated you throughout her life, and we thank and honor you for taking this moment to celebrate her life with us. Thank you for being so important to her.
From Faye Allen Bein to all of you, God bless you.
