Obituary

Mrs. Ethel Mae Smith Britt, 95, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at King's Daughters Hospital in Brookhaven, MS.  She was born on June 19, 1925, in Brookhaven, MS, to Hiram Rankin Smith and Mattie Chandler Smith. She was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church BALL Club. Mrs. Britt was a retired school teacher from Wesson Elementary School and touched the lives of many students. Even in retirement, she continued to learn through reading and was active in the Co-Lin ILR program. She lived a long life honoring and serving the Lord Jesus Christ foremost.  She was kind and gentle with a sweet spirit and smile.  Everyone that knew her loved her.  She was a very loving and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents Hiram and Mattie Smith; husband, William Denver Britt, Sr.; siblings, Lola Case, Marie Boling, Vernon Smith, Nellie Case, Edna Holloway and Carnie Smith.

Survivors are her children, Brenda Britt Brown of Brookhaven, MS, Ginny Britt Bates (husband David) of Terry, MS and Denny Britt (wife Pam) of Ridgeland, MS; brother, Alfred Smith (wife, Doris); grandchildren, Shay Brown (wife Reea), Justin Brady (wife Beth), Tyler Brady (wife Maria), Lee Bates (wife Shelle), Lindsey Bates Barbati (husband Steven), Rev. Jeremy Britt and Haley Britt Boykin (husband Ben);  great-grandchildren, Brittney Brown, Brody Brown, Ronan Brady, Connor Brady, Frederick Brady, Isabel Brady and Britt Boykin; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers are Shay Brown, Tyler Brady, Lee Bates, Jeremy Britt, Ben Boykin and Sherman Smith. Honorary pallbearer is Justin Brady.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in her honor to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Association.

The family has requested that all who come to the visitation and funeral please wear masks in order to protect their family and yours.
