Obituary

Funeral services for Decator Rushing will be on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the Lucien Baptist Church Cemetery in Lucien, MS. Bro. Kent Cochran will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Rushing, 68, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 6, 1949 in Brookhaven, MS, to Luther and Lula Smith Rushing. He was a member of Lucien Baptist Church; worked for many years as a construction worker; was a member of the John A. Quitman Lodge #244; and enjoyed farming, gardening and spending time with his grandkids. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Luther and Lula Smith Rushing; sister, Laurie Rushing Sisco; infant brother; and father & mother-in-law, George and Seleta Kennedy.

Survivors are his wife of 49 1/2 years, Sarah Kennedy Rushing; daughter, Mandy Rushing Burris of Brookhaven, MS; son, Brad Rushing of Brookhaven, MS; sisters, Lena Smith, Betty Jean Hughes, Frances Mullins, Patsy Nations, and Diane Little; brothers, Versie Rushing and Donald Ray Rushing; brother-in-law, Steve Kennedy; sister-in-law, Julia Richardson; grandchildren, Jaimee, Lillianne, Savannah, Lucas, Kolby, Cameron, Sarah, Jared and Monica; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice Compassus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Rushing's name may be made to American Cancer Society.
