David Pierce Russell, Sr., of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, passed from this life on February 15, 2023, to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on October 27, 1959, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Huey Pierce and Barbara Greer Russell. David was the loving husband of Anita for 42 years, and a wonderful father to sons, David and Clay, and devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his sons and grandchildren, serving at Wellman Baptist Church where he and his family attended and he was a deacon for 28 years, hunting, fishing, and working on projects in his workshop. David worked 29 years as an inspector for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He will be remembered for his life as a follower of Jesus, devotion to his family, passion for his church's men's group, love of laughter, and charismatic personality.
Service arrangements for David P. Russell, Sr., will be visitation on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 5:00 – 8:00pm and Saturday February 18, 2023, from 10:00am to time of service at 11:00am at Wellman Baptist Church (1918 Wellman Drive, Bogue Chitto, MS 39629) with burial to follow at the Wellman Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Jeff Davis will officiate the service. Visitation and Funeral Service will both be held at Wellman Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Huey Pierce and Barbara Greer Russell, father-in-law, Robert Lee Coney, and sisters Susan Russell Means and Donna Marie Russell Cupit.
David is survived by his wife, Anita Coney Russell; children David (Kelli) Russell and Clay (Christi) Russell; grandchildren Ava, Silas, Cole, and Reed Russell; mother-in-law Myrtle Coney Lawson; sisters Margaret (Danny) Johnson and Jane (Dana) Loper; brothers-in-law Ron (Ngoc) Means and W.L. Cupit; nieces Cydnee (Victor) Merritt, Tiffanie (Kyle) Hallman, Tara (Casey) Shows, and LaChrisha Loper; nephews Huey and Christopher Loper, and a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers are Ron Means, Ray Greer, Steve Rowell, Grady Case, Jacob Deer, and Charlie Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Baptist Children's Village (Dickerson Place) in his memory.
