Memorial and funeral services for Mary Catherine "Cathy" Smith will be on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Red Star Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brookhaven, MS. A public viewing will be at 10:00 AM, with the funeral at 12:00 PM, and burial to follow. Brookhaven Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held at the Brookhaven Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Cathy, age 75, of Brookhaven, MS passed away on February 19, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Brookhaven on July 14, 1950, to James Vernon Coone and Mary Juanita Ratcliff Coone. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Juanita, sister Beth, brother, Mitchell, and his wife, Helen; and her brother-in-law, Marc (husband of sister Darlene).  Surviving family includes her brother, James "Jimbo", and sister, Darlene Crawford.

Cathy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked as a florist, entrepreneur in the arts and crafts, was a caregiver for the elderly, secretary, and substitute teacher. Cathy was musically and artistically talented, performed with the Brookhaven Little Theater, and was a world traveler. Her greatest love was her family including her husband, Jerry "Wayne" Smith, married 52 years, and children Scott (Misty), Tara (Corrin), Matt (Hannah), and Christina. She doted on her 19 grandchildren: Madalyn, Lauren, Jacob, Savannah, Alivia, Peyton, Carter, Austin, Hunter, Brayden, Avery, Macie Lynn, Sawyer, Slade, Alexis, Alaina, Tanner, Bonnie Belle, and Ruby Jo, and great grandchildren Gracelyn, Desmond, Nathan, and upcoming baby boy.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at University of Mississippi Medical Center for their kindness and care during her final days.
