Mr. Evans was born July 1, 1951 in Odessa, TX, the son of Boyce and Edna Mae Jones Evans. Don passed from this life at his home in Laurel, MS on July 14, 2022 surrounded and supported by his beloved family.

Don's life was one of service to others. He began that mission in his youth as a school crossing guard and a Boy Scout. Following his graduation in 1970 at Franklin County High School, Meadville, MS, Don entered the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. After his time in the military, Don joined the Brookhaven Police Department. His law enforcement career ensued many years, not only at the Brookhaven PD, but also with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, Franklin County Sheriff's Department and as Meadville Police Chief. He also served with the Brookhaven Fire Department as a fireman, captain, arson investigator and safety inspector. During those years he also became a certified EMT. Don later used the skills he had developed to launch a private investigation business and worked as a Criminal Defense Investigator. Until his health failed, Don performed investigative work for many attorneys, insurance companies, and private clients. Don embodied the motto "To Protect and Serve".

Serving others was not limited to his public capacity, as Don was a friend and helper to anyone in need. His ultimate service, however, was devoted to his family. He was always ready to assist any and all. He was an excellent and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Don enjoyed fishing, and was an avid history buff and a gifted storyteller as well; but the most cherished times of his life were simply being with his family. His prayers always concluded with 'Lord, draw us closer together and closer to you'.

He was preceded in death by his father Boyce Evans, his brother Charles Albert Evans, his sister Betty Sue Evans Rodriguez, and his great-granddaughter Bella Rae Titus.

Along with his devoted mother Edna Evans, Don is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Linda Bryan Evans; children Tammy Evans Moak (Brian), Chelsa Evans, Luke Hogan (Chrissy), Kevin Hogan (Ozzie), Sharon Hogan Jackson (A J), Jon Hogan, Heather Gonzales (Gabe) and Missy Salas (Gumby); 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; his sister Sandra Alesich (Raymond); sisters-in-law Betsy Hancock and Carolyn Bryan. They, along with a host of family and friends, will cherish his memory to a heavenly reunion some sweet day.

Pallbearers are Jay Hogan, Caid Hogan, Tyler Salas, Devin Gill, Reason Chandler, Robert Tibbs, Dillon Titus, and Dylan Barnes. Honorary pallbearers are Lee Sturgeon, Patrick Evans, Chris Evans, Clint Berryhill, Cody Berryhill, James Newman, Nolan Jones, and Joe Allen Spring.

The family gratefully acknowledges the support of the United States Air Force, the Brookhaven Fire Department, the Brookhaven Police Department, and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.
