Funeral services for Betty Smith Keen will be on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Brookhaven Funeral Home in Brookhaven, MS, at 11:00 a.m. with interment in Gum Grove Cemetery. Rev. Ted Bowlin and Rev. David Taylor will officiate the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Mrs. Betty Smith Keen of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on May 31, 2023. She was born on January 11, 1929, in Lincoln County, MS, to Edgar Green Smith and Anna Dunnigan Smith and was a member of Gum Grove Baptist Church.
After graduating from West Lincoln High School, she married her high school sweetheart upon his return from serving in Korea. She enjoyed spending time outside, cooking, baking wedding cakes, and serving on the hostess committee for numerous years at Gum Grove. She was a natural caregiver and homemaker and enjoyed preparing vegetables from her garden, but she especially enjoyed spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Proceeding her in death were her husband of 69 years, James A. Keen, Jr.; daughter, Janet Keen Smith; her parents, Edgar Green and Anna Dunnigan Smith; and siblings, Marie Laird, Margie Smith, Ralph Smith, and Melvin Smith.
Survivors are her daughter, Charlotte Keen Reinhart (Brad); grandchildren, Kelly Smith Taylor (David), Ian Smith (Brandi), Kaitlyn Reinhart Beaty (Brad), Emily Reinhart Weber (Chad), and Anna Reinhart (Andy Mintus); great grandchildren, Cloie, Zach, Gray, Paisley, Owen, Nora, Vance, and Crew; sister, Carolyn Smith; brother, Donald Smith; son in law, Robert Wayne Smith (Nancy); nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers are Ian Smith, David Taylor, Brad Beaty, Chad Weber, Shan Smith, and Dane Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Zach Taylor and Gray Taylor.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jaci King and the staff at HaloHaven assisted living home.
