Funeral services for Benton Burt will be on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Easthaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the Easthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Bro. Bendon Ginn, Bro. Matt Powell and Bro. Dustin George will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue at Easthaven Baptist Church on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.
Mr. Burt, 88, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS, with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 8, 1928 in Lincoln County, MS, to Ira P. Burt and Mary Eunice Smith Burt. Mr. Benton was a godly man who loved his family, his church family and his country. He worked for 31 years as a policeman and 4 years as the Chief of Police for the city of Brookhaven; served his country in the US Army served 12 months in Korea; was a charter member of Easthaven Baptist Church where he served deacon and Deacon Emeritus; and was awarded the Golden Deeds Award by the Brookhaven Exchange Club in 1992. He enjoyed working with his hands, gardening, cutting grass and serving other people. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ira P. Burt and Mary Eunice Smith Burt; wife, Bea Porter Burt; sister, Audrey Burt Case; brothers, Virgil Burt and Hollis Burt; and grandson, Daniel Burns.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Virginia Smith Burt; daughters, Eunice Diann Burt Flake and husband David of Bogue Chitto, MS, Charlotte Dale Walker and husband Jackie of Columbus, MS, and Denise Burt Perrett and husband Claud of Brookhaven, MS; sisters, Kathryn Burt Nobles of Ft. Collins, CO, and Dot Burt Welch of Bogue Chitto, MS; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are Keith Burns, David Burns, Shawn Hanks, Kody Perrett, Jonathan Burns and Bill McGehee. Honorary pallbearers are Conner Burchfield, Benton Blayze Burns and the Bill McGehee Sunday School Class.
