Funeral services for Avis J. Smith will be on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Brookhaven Funeral Home in (894 Natchez Drive) Brookhaven, MS at 1:00 PM with burial to follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Dr. Garland Boyd will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

Mrs. Smith, 88, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Diversicare Nursing Home in Brookhaven, MS with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 18, 1930 in Brookhaven, MS, to James Oscar Britt and Elsie Mae Walker Britt. She worked at Sthal Urban Manufactoring Co. for 27 years and Copiah Lincoln Jr. College for 14 years. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar and Elsie Mae Britt; husband Sidney Smith; sister, Ann Kyle; and brothers, Monva Lee (Eute) Britt and James Olian Britt.

Survivors are her daughter, Diane Smith Burns and husband Charles; grandchild, Ben Burns; great grandchild, Nickolas Burns; and a host of church family, nieces and nephews and friends.

The family would also like to express their appreciation for the care provided to Mrs. Smith by Hospice Ministries and Diversicare Nursing Home in Brookhaven, MS.
