Obituary

Annie Denay (Hall) Phillips, age 73, a resident of Coldwater, MS, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Denay was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi on February 12, 1953. She departed this life at her home with her husband by her side.


Denay graduated from Natchez High School in 1971. She then went on to graduate from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Denay worked as a stay-at-home mother and as an administrative assistant.


Denay is survived by her husband, Gerald Lynn Phillips, and her children Tamila (Chris) Whitney, Forrest (Christa) Dunlop, Joni Rousseau, and Sara (Daniel) Scott. Denay is also survived by her nine grandchildren that she loved dearly TSgt Andrea L. (Gregory) Smeal, Lane Fiola, Gabrielle Fiola, Seth (Dylan) Strohm, JonCarlo Dunlop, Hunter Dunlop, Laken Dunlop, McKenzey Mason, Michael Rousseau, Jeffrey Scott, Dayton Scott, Elijah Scott, John Isaac Scott, Alice Anne Scott and two great-grandchildren Conner and Sawyer Smeal. Denay is also survived by a sister, Sue (Dale) Redden, a nephew, Stacy (Jennifer) Arnold and three nieces Jacklyn, Sadie and Sara Redden. Denay was preceded in death by her mother and father, Denver and Evelyn Hall, a sister, Derinda Louise Hall and a granddaughter, Mary Martin Dunlop.


Denay was a wonderful cook and has passed on her love of cooking to her children. She also enjoyed crafts, gardening and had a love for all animals and flowers.


Visiting hours will take place at Hernando Funeral Home on Friday, May 8 from 10:00am until services at 12:00pm. Burial will take place at Alderman Tarver Cemetery in Brookhaven, Mississippi at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 9.
