Alton Wade
Britt
April 23, 1965 – July 15, 2021
Alton Wade Britt, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on July 15, 2021 at Merit River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. He was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi on April 23, 1965 to Jimmy Britt and Yvonne Kimble Britt. He was a 1983 graduate of Loyd Star School and a member of Pinelake Church in Flowood. He was a devoted son and brother, and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Britt, and his father-in-law, Shelby Smith.
Alton began his career working for Clowe Machine Company. Within his tenure, he would design, manufacture, and install hundreds of Clowe Machine Bottle labelers for the likes of Gatorade, Snapple, and Clorox. Some of his best designs are still on the market today.
As a journeyman Machinist, he would continue his career with Tufpak, designing and manufacturing robotic assembly line machines, cappers, and fillers. He also continued to work on the Clowe Labeler. At the time of his passing, he had over three decades of experience.
Alton always loved the outdoors and began shooting competitively many years ago. It was the machinist in him that led him to begin building custom rifles, which were soon set apart from the competition. Alton and his son, CJ, would go on to collect many state titles across the United States.
In 2010, with the help of some partners, Alton formed Dixie Precision Rifles. Dixie Precision has rifles in every state, and customers in Hawaii, Alaska, and as far away as Germany. Alton's custom rifle builds have held State Titles, National Titles, and won a National Championship Match at Camp Perry, Ohio, which entitled Alton a visit from the Governor Phil Bryant.
Some men create a legacy, some men leave a legacy, few accomplish both. Alton did this while remaining humble and striving for perfection. "Aim small, miss small."
Survivors are his wife, Sherry Smith Britt; children, CJ and Shelby Britt, Shelly and Robert Price and granddaughter Riley Price; his mother, Yvonne Britt; siblings, Edward and Sheila Britt, Kim and Jamie Wallace, and Janet and Gary Smith; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Allred Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
